The Alex Wilson Legacy Fund

Alex (Tink) Wilson Memory Book

We are excited to post this book in 2023 for everyone's enjoyment. When Alex died in 2012, his brother, John Wilson, put together this book of memories. It contains photos of Alex and articles about him. It contains flyers for events he produced, and extracts from his journals, including deep thoughts about the meaning of dance, community and life. And there are many heartfelt tributes from friends and family.

The Alex Wilson Legacy Fund

The Alex Wilson Legacy Fund fosters folklore projects around Boulder and the Front Range of Colorado. It continues and expands the lifework of Alex “Tink” Wilson (1929-2012), an inspiring leader of folk dancing, folk song, and story in the Boulder area for decades. Since 2012, the Fund has helped to fund many community-related folklore projects through small grants.

For 2021, the Fund expanded its support of the folk arts community through a series of live-streamed or recorded performances: Alex’s Virtual Folk Arts Series 2021!

For its first five years the organization operated as part of Boulder International Folk Dancers. In September 2017 the Fund became a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The Fund is administered by a three-member Board that reviews projects submitted and determines grant awards. In addition, a six-member Advisory Board supports the Board and serves as a source of new candidates as members rotate on and off the Board each year. Funds distributed annually come from contributions made by the heirs of Alex’s estate and others.

The Fund has inspired people to develop and execute both long dreamed-of and heretofore-never imagined projects. We are creating the new folklife of our community every day!
